Wink
January 12, 2010 - August 26, 2025
Wink came into my life when we were both just kids. He was three months old and I ten years. On the day we took him home he winked at me (the namesake) and it was one of the most exciting days of my life. Each and every day with him after that was a complete gift. He stayed in my life until I was nearly twenty-six and he fifteen and a half; we watched each other grow up. Through middle school, high school, a university degree, four jobs, the COVID pandemic and countless other endeavours and adventures along the way, Wink was there by my side for it all. He was loved by everyone he met and knew all of the tricks that were sure to impress.
Wink frequented the Winnipeg Humane Society’s kids’ day camp, and was admired and loved by hundreds of children throughout his years. With his help, we were able to educate children about the importance of responsible pet ownership and the proper ways to greet a new dog. Wink loved the spotlight and always soaked up the loving attention while having a knack for being a very patient gentleman with all.
Wink was the most ideal cuddle buddy - the perfect size to spoon. He kept his family warm at night and acted as a furry hot water bottle many, many a time. He was such a smart boy - he could pick up a new trick in no time. His smartness did come with some ‘independence’ as the dog world likes to call it, and he often liked to pretend he didn’t hear us when he was eating something in the yard that he shouldn’t have been
Wink loved to go on adventures of any kind. A trip to the lake was one of his favourites. He loved running from the cabin all the way down to the beach to spend the day walking through shallow waters and the absolute best - suntanning his belly. No matter where we were going, he was ecstatic to be in my passenger seat. He was truly a dog that you could take absolutely anywhere. For many years wherever I went, so did he. Through this we had countless adventures together and created memories that will last a lifetime.
The perfect childhood dog did exist, and it was Wink. He is so loved and will be so missed by his family and all of his many, many friends he made along the way. A long life, well-lived. Rest easy Dinky Dog.
