  • The loss of a beloved animal companion is often as painful (or more painful) than losing a human companion. It is important to take care of yourself and recognize the signs of more complicated grieving in ourselves and loved ones.

The veterinarian attending your visit will leave behind a resource packet with recommendations. You can see some of these on our Resources page.

  • If your pet passes at home, without the assistance of a veterinarian, you can bring your pet to your family veterinarian, or directly to the crematorium (Precious Pet or Peaceful Pasture) provided it is during their open hours.

If you pet passes overnight or on the weekend, you can choose to keep them at home with you or you can bring them to Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital or Bridgwater Veterinary Hospital.

Please contact any facility before you drive to them. If you need someone to come to your home to retrieve your pet for cremation, please contact the crematory directly.

More information can be found here.

  • In order to provide a safe, comfortable environment for all, Sunset Veterinary Care strongly recommends wearing masks during our visit if anyone is unwell.

Please note, our veterinarian/team members will be entering your home. They may be wearing face masks, and can do so at your request. If you, or anyone in your home, is experiencing any flu or cold-like symptoms, please advise so we can take necessary precautions. This may mean rescheduling your appointment.

Please feel comfortable in disclosing your preference, or need, for our veterinarian to wear a mask or practice social distancing.
