Lexi

On Oct 17th 2025 exactly 9 years and 6 months to the day Lexi joined our family she peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge while Momma kissed her nose and sang her special “Lexi Loo I Love you” song.

She was my “love at first sight”. While waiting to pick up my son from school I saw her face come across my FB feed on Winnipeg Boxer Rescue. I knew in that moment I had to adopt her. She was taken into rescue after living on a reserve without veterinary care at aprox 3 years old.

Lexi was not spayed so who knows many litters she had in that short time. She also had entropion eye (a painful eye condition in dogs where eyelid rolls inward, causing eyelashes to rub against the cornea and potentially leading to irritation, ulcers, and vision problems) and tested positive for heart-worm.

She had a long road of recovery before she could be adopted. Lexi joined our family and fit in like a missing puzzle piece. She quickly bonded with her fur sister Bella and the other residents animals at the time The bond Lexi and I developed was more than I could have ever anticipated. She was my ride or die, always no more than an arm length away from me. She joined me for every car ride she could, she loved our trail walks in Beaudry park, she was my sous-chef while I cooked. Most of all she was my safe place and my comfort when life felt like too much. The days my anxiety would overwhelm me she was there to ground me, she would lay across my chest like a weighted blanket and soon our breathing would be in sync and she calmed the storm in my head.

Somedays I think she rescued me. My heart dog. Lexi loved people and greeted everyone with a big smile and a wagging tail. Didn’t matter what we were doing, she was just happy to be there. Over the years she helped train & housebreak puppies, she was the most patient girl with puppies, gentle & loving. I’m going to miss singing our Lexi Loo song together and the sound of her snore as it lulled me to sleep.

Special Thank you to Tracy McKay of Winnipeg Boxer Rescue for bringing her into rescue and trusting me to love her. Thank you to Tina for loving her & fostering while she recovered before being adopted. Thank you goes out to Seasons Veterinary Clinic for proving care to Lexi over the years.

Also want to Thank Dr Liz from Sunset Veterinary Care for being there so Lexi could be at home in her final moment. Last I would like to Thank Barry at Peaceful Pastures Pet Cremation for providing after care.

Lexi will now join her original pack; Taz, Bella & Sylvester. She will be missed by her current pack; Karma & Franklin.

Run Free my girl, you were not only momma’s best girl but you brought out the best in me.

Goodnight my love

Know I love you

Someday in time I'll get to hold you

Inside my arms it's long over due

Goodbye my love, I'll see you soon
