Seeking a Veterinarian for Meaningful, Unhurried Care
Be part of a compassionate team supporting families through their most important moments.
Every pet deserves a peaceful goodbye.
At Sunset Veterinary Care, we believe that the final moments of a pet's life should be guided by compassion, dignity, and love. We provide in-home quality-of-life consultations and euthanasia services throughout Winnipeg and the surrounding area, helping families say goodbye in the comfort and familiarity of home.
We are looking for a compassionate veterinarian to join our team.
This position is ideal for someone who values meaningful client relationships, prefers quality over quantity, and believes that some of the most important work we do as veterinarians happens when we slow down, listen, and support families through difficult decisions.
About the Role
As a House Call Veterinarian with Sunset Veterinary Care, you will travel to clients' homes to provide:
In-home euthanasia services
Quality-of-life consultations
Guidance and support for families navigating end-of-life decisions
Aftercare discussions and coordination
For the right candidate, there may also be an opportunity to help develop hospice and palliative care services.
Our veterinarians typically see only 3–4 families per day, allowing time to provide thoughtful, unhurried care without the pressures often associated with traditional practice.
This position is primarily based in Winnipeg and within approximately a 15-minute radius outside the city.
Who We Are Looking For
This role requires much more than medical knowledge.
We are seeking someone who is:
Warm, compassionate, and approachable
Comfortable supporting people through grief and difficult conversations
Gentle and patient with animals
Able to anticipate client needs and create a calm experience
Comfortable working independently
Adaptable and confident entering new environments every day
Licensed (or eligible to become licensed) to practice veterinary medicine in Manitoba
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of clinical veterinary experience
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (hatchback-style preferred)
Ability to lift 50 lb independently and up to 100 lb with assistance
No previous house-call experience is necessary. We provide training and mentorship specific to compassionate end-of-life care and communication.
Why Our Team Loves This Work
Our veterinarians often tell us they love:
Meeting some of the most appreciative clients in veterinary medicine
Seeing pets surrounded by the people who love them most
Having the time and space to focus on patient and family care
A manageable caseload that prioritizes quality over volume
Minimal charting and follow-up compared to traditional practice
The opportunity to be part of one of the most meaningful acts we perform as veterinarians
This work is emotional, but you will never be expected to carry it alone. We maintain regular communication throughout the day, support one another through difficult cases, and provide ongoing guidance in compassionate euthanasia and client communication.
Schedule & Flexibility
We are primarily seeking a full-time veterinarian but are open to discussing part-time or flexible arrangements for the right candidate.
Daytime appointments
No on-call responsibilities
Flexible scheduling
Opportunity to help shape your workload and schedule
Compensation & Benefits
Full-time employees receive:
Competitive salary
Mileage reimbursement
Continuing education allowance
Licensing and professional dues coverage
2–3 weeks of annual vacation
Flexible scheduling
Most importantly, you will join a team that genuinely cares about one another and believes that veterinary medicine can be both meaningful and sustainable.
I started Sunset Veterinary Care because I believe end-of-life care deserves the same attention, compassion, and expertise as every other stage of a pet's life.
If this mission resonates with you and you find purpose in helping families through their hardest days, value connection over volume, and believe every pet deserves a gentle farewell, I would love to hear from you.
